You Since 1929 |
In 1929, J.M. Lawrence opened a grocery store in Sweetwater,
Texas. The store was called Piggly Wiggly, which, during its
time, was part of the largest retail grocery franchise in the
United States. Over the years, J. M. Lawrence, and later his
sons, and grandsons, operated stores throughout West Texas.
In 1986, the names of the grocery stores were changed to Lawrence
Brothers IGA. In addition, several stores were added to the
retail grocery franchise under the name of "Fiesta Foods."
The name Lawrence Brothers is a reflection of our grocery store
operation - a family business. The letters IGA signify Independent
Grocers Association which is the largest of the franchise grocery
companies in the world. Today, the Lawrence Brothers IGA stores
combine the power of a national chain with the atmosphere of
a family run business.
